It’s Fashion Week You Sons of Bridges!

New York fashion week was 8 months ago. So based on that irrelevant fact this week’s blog is all about fashion!

Elegance. Class. Respect. Three words one may think when they describe the image of rowing. Well Alice… you may have too high expectations when it comes to rowing and fashion. Take exhibit A:

Yes that is me looking like the love child of Santa Claus and the Mad Hatter. The ridiculous leggings, the thermal colour scheme, the spots on my onepiece that look like I either have a bad case of chicken pox or a bad case of just too many nipples. You may be asking yourself, why does this guy go outside looking like this?

The truth is… because I can! Rowing is a great opportunity to get fit and compete at top levels of university sport; but it is also a great excuse to look like an idiot and get away with it.

What many don’t know is that university rowing at times is very much a ‘fashion show’ as much as a sporting competition. Even in my first year at BUCS regatta they had a competition for the craziest leggings… yes they actually did this. And what’s worse is we didn’t even win! That should be enough to indicate the bizarre looks that universities across the world commit to. Here are some of the entries from this year’s regatta.

For those who don’t know, the actual basic kit worn at races is the onepiece. Possibly one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing you could wear, given it is bought from the right retailer. My personal preference being JL – an expensive option but the comfort is undeniable and those spots would make anyone go weak at the knees!

But enough about my fashion life, below are images of some of my favourite international rowing kits to show you what the pros rock when they pick up those medals!

The Classy Croatian Double

Blue Steel Italian 8+

The Unquestionable Women's Quad

Kiwi's and Pairs

To conclude I should definitely not pivot this blog to a fashion based blog. See you next week!
